Since its launch in February, only five homeowners in Portland have offered to rent rooms for $200 or less per week under Mayor Keith Wilson’s pilot program designed to reduce homelessness and increase affordable housing in the city, according to The Willamette Week. Under the program, owners who list spare bedrooms for rent for 30 days on certain platforms—and keep the room available for at least a year—will receive a $1,000 check. A spokesperson for HomeShare Oregon said home-sharing, while cost-effective, isn’t expected to be speedy as both homeowner and renter must evaluate whether they can live together.

Portland is doing every thing it can and sparing no government funds to coax the homeless off the streets, and it is not working.

Despite spending a billion dollars on affordable housing and homeless programs, there remains 1,660 empty affordable housing unites.

While one hand of government is pouring cash into opening homes, the other hand of government is handing out free free camping tents and drug supplies.  Guess who is winning?
