Lars Larson: Shouldn’t fat guys like me pay more for health insurance?

by Lars Larson

Arizona’s governor has proposed fat fee for folks on Medicaid – you know that’s the government provided, taxpayer funded, health insurance for poor people.  Here is what she is proposing – a $50 fee on obese Medicaid enrollees – I don’t see a problem – I’m overweight – by the government height and weight charts I’m obese – the fact is because I’m fat I am more likely to get certain types of diseases – so are the people on Medicaid – if you charge people more because they are fat they will either get skinny or have to pay for some of the cost of their own medical care.  I don’t see a darn thing wrong with it. I think it is a brilliant idea from Governor Brewer.
