Capitol floodgates burst — 23 Bills in one hearing

The April 5th Legislative Calendar shows the Senate Judiciary Committee planning to host 23 bills on April 6th, with most of the bills set for a Committee vote.

This is a new record, as it is three bills above our previous recorded high of 20 bills from the House Committee on Housing.   We know that many of these bills are getting token hearings to qualify for a procedural mid-April deadline (requiring bills show proof of life to remain active).  Yet it also reflects the logjam that the pandemic has created.   We should use the chaos as a sign to usher in more order and transparency and not less.

Note: Hearings are scheduled to last minute changes, so the hearing might decrease bills or add amendments on a short notice.
