HB 3159 raises hotel tax (as travel declines)

House Bill 3159 would increase the hotel lodging tax in Oregon.

This comes just as news that travel is declining after a post-lockdown surge.  Some warn that business travel will never return to pre-pandemic levels which put hotels in a bind.

House Bill 3159, Increases state transient lodging tax. Changes name of Oregon Conservation Strategy Subaccount to Recovering Oregon’s Wildlife Fund Subaccount. Transfers moneys attributable to increase of state transient lodging tax to Recovering Oregon’s Wildlife Fund Subaccount. If passed HB 3159 takes effect on 91st day following adjournment sine die.
