House Concurrent Resolution 14 designates the film, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (1975) as official film of Oregon.  This would join others such as State flower, State tree and drink.

One of the reasons within the bill is that “the film was shot almost entirely on location at the Oregon State Hospital in Salem”.

The bill also says, “an anti-authoritarian folk hero whose outside-the-box thinking and vehement rejection of the status quo exemplifies the irrepressible spirit of the people of the State of Oregon”

The bill is sponsored by State Representative Paul Evans (D-Salem).

How fitting that Oregon may pick a film about a State mental institution when Oregon is famous for their insanity.
