Early data from The Smarter Balance Assessment show declining test scores according to The Oregonian (print edition 7/12/23).

For 8th graders, 66% failed reading proficiency and 74% failed math proficiency.

For 3rd graders, at least 60% failed reading , writing and math.

The article mentions that Oregon still has $1.7 billion in Federal Covid education aid to spend before September 2023.

The Portland Public School District is considering spending funds on private tutors and summer school to help boost test scores.

The lower test scores are odd since the State of Oregon passed the largest tax increase in Oregon history in 2019 (CAT Tax) and the results are worse test scores since 2019.
