Lars Larson: Yet, another school shutdown

So, we see yet another school shutdown, caused by a threat.

This time, it’s every single school in the Estacada district.

A week ago, a threat closed Hazelbrook Middle School in Tualatin.

In that case, a student was arrested and charged .

Let me tell you why we’re going to continue to see this nonsense, till we change the equation.

When kids make threats and get schools closed and they know for certain they’ll never be identified. Even if arrested and charged, the cops and the courts and the DA won’t make that information public.

I figure even if that kid is found guilty as charged, punishment will be a slap on the wrist and we’ll never know.

Let’s change that.

You threaten a school…pull a fire alarm or claim you’re going to shoot it up or bomb it…when you’re caught…everyone in town will know your name.

Humiliation is a powerful motivator for both adults and kids.

Taxpayers spend more than 17-thousand bucks, per kid, per year for public school and get the shortest school year in America, along with high dropouts and pathetic test scores.

When you steal a day of school from hundreds or thousands of kids, law abiding folks should know your name.

That’s the Rose City Rap. Join me at noon on KXL for four hours of honestly provocative talk. I’m Lars Larson
