There are two important initiative petitions trying to qualify for the 2024 ballot.

Petition #1: STOP OREGON’S CRIME WAVE: Sign the Oregon Crime fighting Act (Petition #54) petition to end criminal “Catch and Release”

Thousands of dangerous criminal suspects have been released early on our streets — sometimes committing the same criminal act within hours after being released from their arrest.  The Oregon Crime fighting Act will stop the “Catch and Release” system in place that has resulted in thousands of criminal suspects being released on our streets before their trial. This petition includes those charged with motor vehicle theft, mail theft, identity theft, burglary, arson, riot, first-degree disorderly conduct, willful spread of communicable diseases, failure to report as a sex offender, and first-degree theft.

For instance, on September 14th, 2020, a 45-year-old man was arrested for trying to set a major brush fire in Portland with a homemade Molotov Cocktail. He was arrested, released, and mere hours later was arrested AGAIN for trying to light six more fires (KGW 9/14/20).On June 1st, 2021, a Portland man broke into a woman’s home and attacked her. Police detained him but quickly let him go with only a (hand-slap) citation. Mere hours later, the same man stood in the middle of a highway swinging a weapon, threatening to kill people (KPTV 6/1/21).

Petition #2. The public Right to Vote on tolling.  No Oregon tolls without public permission and a public vote.

The public-vote-on-tolls petition (petition #4) would stop any tolling project and require a simple public vote for any tolling to proceed. This helps puts taxpayers in charge of their own taxation.  Already politicians are looking at nearly 8 tolls in Oregon, costing anywhere from $2, $4 to as much as $8 each toll.   Many people would be forced to pay for multiple tolls just to get to work and again to drive home.
