Because of two ethics complaints against Oregon Governor Tina Kotek involving using state resources for her spouse, the Oregon Government Ethics Commission must put on hold Governor Kotek’s request to rule on the matter. As the scandal was unfolding, Kotek announced that she asked the Ethics Commission to provide guidance on how she could provide office space and taxpayer resources for her spouse. Right now, she has a staffer ($72,000) dedicated to help her spouse.  Needless to say, Kotek should have asked the Ethics Commission before she made her decision.

Kotek’s decision to bring her wife into the Governor’s Office caused her Chief of Staff and two other high ranking officials to resign. That Chief of Staff was given a cushy 6-month job at the Governor’s Department of Administrative Services.
