Rep. Reschke: By God’s grace alone

July 13, 2024 — This is another day we will remember exactly whom we were with and where we were at. D-Day, Kennedy’s assassination, the space shuttle Challenger explosion and terror attacks of 9-11 are events that burn unforgettable in the minds of every American who was alive at the time.

I am the State Chair of the National Association of Christian Lawmakers (NACL). The head of NACL called on our members to fast and pray for our nation every Tuesday up through Election Day. I am taking up that challenge. I, also, ask you to consider likewise. Our nation is in desperate need of individual revival, restoration of the truth and a return to government that submits to the Laws of Nature and Nature’s God. The assassination attempt on President Trump was a wake-up call. How we respond matters.

Donald J. Trump is not our savior. He is a man with many flaws. But as I look at my own life, so am I. If you are honest with yourself, so are you. Perfection and sainthood are not what is required in the White House. Courage is — to stand for what is right, to fight against evil and to promote America as the land of the free and home of the brave — we need someone who will lead our government back to its founding principles.

At moments like this I am reminded that God does not call the qualified to do His will but instead qualifies those He calls. We are all made from crooked timber that He uses to build His perfect structure. After the horrific event on Saturday what is demanded of us is action — not sympathy and certainly not apathy. Sitting around discussing what happened was yesterday. Today, we need to determine what we will do to help America find her footing on solid ground once again.

“God bless America, land that I love.
Stand beside her and guide her
Through the night with a Light from Above.”

If you love someone, you are willing to fight for them. Those are the very words Donald Trump yelled back to the crowd after he was shot: “Fight, Fight, Fight!” Are you willing to fight for our nation? Do you love America and the freedoms you’ve been blessed with? Do you want to vanquish the evil in our midst? Donald Trump certainly does.

The time for sitting on the sidelines is over. It is time to join the fight to save our state and our country. We do that in non-violent ways. We do that by getting involved politically. We do that by holding peaceful rallies. We do that by writing letters to the editor. We do that at by testifying at school board and city council meetings. We stand firm proclaiming the truth wherever we are able. And we work to elect men and women who know the truth, and who will limit government’s size and scope to ensure our freedom.

In spite of all our flaws God can use each of us to do a mighty work to save our state and nation from its moral decline. We can once again be that shinning city on a hill, the land of opportunity and prosperity. However, that city must built atop a firm foundation of moral clarity.

This is the land that I love, so I will fight, fight, fight.
