Sen. Bonham: Tell our state how YOU feel about our roads + taxes

Tell our state how YOU feel about our roads + taxes
By Oregon State Senator Daniel Bonham,

State legislators on the Joint Committee on Transportation have set the date for two more public hearings to discuss the “safety and sustainability” of Oregon’s transportation systems.

These meetings are touting funding stability, diverse transportation systems and finishing key projects. In other words — taxes, regulations, and more taxes.

Excuse my pun, but we have been down this road before. I have always said – we don’t have a “funding sustainability problem”, we have a spending problem. When it comes to roads, the “funding problem” is masked as an opportunity to overregulate gas prices and penalize car owners to incentivize public transit. This affects a majority of us.

I encourage residents to show up and make your voice heard. So far, the meetings have been echo chambers for people who all have things to gain by raising taxes and increasing regulations. It is critical that everyday residents have a say.

There are two opportunities:

Sept. 26, 5-7 p.m. at Adrienne C. Nelson High School, located at 14897 S.E. Parklane Drive in Happy Valley
Sept. 27, 5-7 p.m. at the Shirley Huffman Auditorium in the Hillsboro Civic Center, located at 150 E. Main St. in Hillsboro

I hope to see you there!
