Sen. Boquist: Election re-cap, media disconnect, protests

Highlights, excerpts from Sen. Boquist newsletter

— Oregon Capitol Insider. 11/8/2024.   “Capital Chatter: Oregon’s elections were run-of-the-mill.  Oregonians witnessed an exciting national election but settled for run-of-the-mill, Democrat-dominated outcomes in the statewide races …”  The Oregon college professor quote is typical: “It’s just wild to me, because the economy has never been better,” Moore said. “It’s almost like we forgot how to live with inflation.”  So how is your rent?  Utility payments?  Insurance?  Not working three jobs?  Simply rolling in the dough right?  Mr. Moore is completely out of touch with reality … even in Forest Grove.

— Willamette Week. 10/9/2024.  “In Portland, Muted and Peaceful Protests Greet Trump’s Victory:  We want to be peaceful because Trump has threatened violence, and we want to draw that distinction between us and Trump.”  Good news but does anyone remember downtown Portland in the Fall of 2020?  Many businesses remain boarded up, closed, or simply vacant retail fronts.  Where is Columbia and Nike … gone.  All from ‘peaceful’ fire filled tear gas protests.  None the less, lets keep it peaceful through January 2025.

— Willamette Week in Pictures.  11/9/2024.  “Rally to Reject Trump Victory.”  Pictures worth a thousand words.  Rally against Trump at the Democrat city hall.  “US out of everywhere” banner while Biden Harris have us all in post-election expanding wars in Ukraine, Israel, Syria, Libya, Africa, and list goes on and on and on.  See the “Half the Sky” banner at the link.  Wondering if they all went to the wrong protest?

— Portland Tribune. 11/9/2024.  Lead story on Saturday.  “Arctic fox found in Oregon thriving at treatment facility.  An arctic fox found wandering a Portland street in October is now thriving at its new home, according to its caretakers.”  Wonder if government officials in Portland have heard about Peanut the Squirrel and Fred the Racoon being killed by New York officials?  The memorial wake was Friday.  Or seen this interesting Millennial clip “Avenging Peanut the Squirrel & Fred the Raccoon Music Video w/ Lyrics” which is one of hundreds posted online.  All of the clips are symptomatic of much deeper generational issues very likely to explode shortly?

— Oregonian.  11/10/2024.  “In trade-dependent Oregon, Trump’s tariffs could reverberate: Donald Trump’s re-election to the presidency could have widespread implications for Oregon’s economy if he follows through on his pledge to establish tariffs on goods imported into the United States.”  Typical Oregonian … Trump Bad, Biden Good.  Biden leveled 100% tariffs on electric vehicles working class Oregonians could afford but that was good … for what?  Biden good as he leveled 50% tariffs on renewable energy products … what is climate change?  Is climate change is about profits for Democrat donors nothing else?  If we are going to die from climate change in ten years shouldn’t we want inexpensive green cars?   Maybe the Oregonian should try writing about the cause of inflations … Biden sanctions for war profiteers.

— Oregon Eagle.  11/9/2024.  “Unsuccessful Attorney General Candidate Shares Post-Election Thoughts With Oregonians” by Will Lathrop.  Looks like a concession or congratulations letter?

— Oregon Eagle.  11/9/2024.  More Freedom.  Less Government.  Better Living.  “Trump Announces Major Protections on Free Speech, On Social Media Platforms, College Campuses, and the Federal Government.”  Quite certain Kotek and Rayfield will oppose all the points in this article made by a rural Oregon journalist.  Nor do either the Ds or Rs believe in free speech in the legislature.
