Oregon forecast: Yearly mass power outages

The was an alarming story in The Oregonian a few weeks that was missed because it ran in the middle of the 2024 General election.

The article warned that a high-use forecast of energy demand cannot keep up with supply and it will bring annual mass power outages to to Oregon.

The article warns,

“If data center electricity use hits the forecast’s upper range, the region could experience power shortages as soon as 2029 – most often during cold, dry winter months when hydropower generation is low.  Even a brief power shortage could trigger emergency measures, forcing utilities to buy electricity on the spot market, potentially at very unappealing prices. That could send everyone’s rates soaring. If things get really bad, the next step would be “extraordinary measures.” Public officials would call for industries and residents to voluntarily curtail their electricity consumption. Cities might turn off streetlights. Government offices might go dark. Hydropower dams would run full-tilt, abandoning protections for fish.If those things don’t work? Then it’s lights out.”

This is a politician created crisis:

• Politicians forced the abolishment of Oregon’s only coal plant — which provided reliable, affordable energy no matter the weather.

• Politicians worked to dismantle the Klamath Falls hydro-electric dam — which provided power to as many as 70,000 homes.

• Politicians gave nearly a quarter billion in Oregon tax subsidies to super-expensive electric vehicles and charging stations — which greatly sucked electricity from a smaller electric supply.  In essence, politicians paid people to drain our electric grid.

• Politicians gave nearly a billion dollars in tax give-a-ways to tech companies to set-up data centers which put extreme constraints on the electrical supply.   Again, politicians paid people to drain our electrical grid.   Oregon Capital Chronicle reports, “The council in 2023 projected that demand for electricity in the West would increase about 17% by 2033 – that’s about twice what it had predicted just the year before. That leap in projected energy use is due largely to the number of large data centers being built”

• Politicians are trying to push to bans on natural gas which further forces people to use more electricity.  Eugene and Milwaukie tried to ban new natural gas installation in certain homes.

There is a possible big crisis coming if Oregon is hit with annual mass power outages.

You need to know this is happening and who is causing it.
