Senator lays out Kicker theft plan (without vote)

First, we have Oregon State Senator Lew Frederick (D), proposing a bill (SJR 15) to abolish the Oregon Kicker Tax Refund.

Now we have Oregon State Senator Jeff Golden (D) publishing his plan in the Sunday Oregonian to take the people’s Kicker Income Tax Refund.   Senator Golden is selling us on the need to take people’s Kicker Refund in order to stop wildfires.  Senator Golden promises “the state will provide high-quality protection from catastrophic wildfire for the rest of your life and likely much longer.” That is right, if you just surrender your money, the government promises there will be no more wildfire danger.

Hogwash.

Senator Golden’s plan is not an outright Kicker-abolishment like Senator Frederick’s Kicker bill SJR 15.  Senator Golden wishes to steal the people’s Kicker just once. Yes just once, he promises.

Golden wishes to use the once time raid to create a special fund where we government earns the interest on the people’s stolen Kicker refund and dedicate it to wildfire services.

And he wants to steal the Kicker and change the Constitution without asking voters. Golden says, “We can do this in Salem with a two-thirds vote – 40 of 60 representatives, 20 of 30 senators.” Golden does not even wish to involve the public in this billion dollar decision.

It doesn’t matter that the last Oregon budget, Golden and Kotek voted to grow the budget by over 20%.   Apparently, among that vast 20% budget boom, there wasn’t enough money to fund wildfire services.

This Kicker theft idea is a joke.
