Kotek may not run again (Capitol rumor)

A capitol insider mentioned that in the Capitol there is a rumor that Oregon Governor Tina Kotek may not run again for re-election as Governor.   Since the 2025 Legislature started, Gov. Kotek has, again, been conspicuously absent, which only fits a pattern and speculation that Kotek is checked out.   This is why Gov. Kotek was rated America’s least liked Governor two years in a row.

Just this weekend, The Oregonian reported that the bombshell news of Oregon students ranking among nation’s worst was ignored by Kotek. The Oregonian said, “The state Department of Education did not issue any press releases about the results of what’s known as the Nation’s Report Card, scores that were otherwise scrutinized from coast to coast for any sign that students were recovering from pandemic setbacks.  Gov. Tina Kotek, too, was quiet.”

Gov. Kotek has been “quiet” or too distant for her entire term as Governor.

During the 2024 Legislative Session, Kotek’s office boasted that she was only submitting a single bill for the entire session.   Once Session ended, the media criticized her for letting unsigned (or unvetoed) bills stack up on her desk — which was the same problem she had in 2024 when 300 bills piled up on her desk.

The Kotek scandal involving her wife and her office spending continues to grow

– Four top staffers resigned
– Held $200,000 tax-funded conference for wife (only 29 people attended)
– Scrutiny over her spouse using her position to lobby
– Improperly threw a $9,000 party for employees
– Improperly paid for parking expenses for others
– The review of her mis-spendings is still under additional investigation (Jan 27th)

Yes, it is true Kotek has been public lately by calling a December Emergency Legislative Session to bailout out the Forestry Department and in her recent press releases opposing President Trump.  Yet, these were events she had to participate in.  Kotek had to bail out the Forestry Department because it was over $200 million in debt and could not pay their bills.  The Forestry Department mess was likely a result of her lack of over-sight — just like ODOT now finds itself in need of a billion dollar bailout all of a sudden.  As for her many public actions fighting Trump, we must remember that this is a nationwide coordinated effort by Governors and Attorney Generals from liberal states.

These are signs that Gov. Kotek has checked out and does not seem like she is fighting for her life for a another term as Governor.

This Capitol rumor could be wrong — then again it could be 100% right.

— P.S.  we held unto this rumor for a month and did not think much of it, until after the Legislative Session started and noticed how checked out she has become during Session which only hints that it could be true.
