Oregon Senate bill (SB681), will direct the State Treasurer to stop investing in the private market that investments in fossil fuels and has a hearing for this Thursday.    Oregon could stand to lose hundreds of millions of investment returns for an empty environmental mandate that does not reduce carbon.

Our Public Pension System (PERS) is $28 billion in debt.   Our government pensions need all the help they can get — not restrictions on making profits.

The bill’s (SB681) summary reads: “Prohibits the State Treasurer from renewing investments in or making new investments in a private market fund if the managers of the fund have stated an intention to invest in fossil fuels, subject to fiduciary duties.

The bill has a public hearing on March 19th at 8:00 AM. Register to testify here. You can also submit testimony here
