Today, Representative Shelly Boshart Davis (R-Albany), Vice Chair of the Joint Committee on Transportation released the following statement after a KATU investigation revealed an Oregon business owner spent $100,000 on a construction project ODOT planned to fix.

According to KATU’s reporting, the City of Portland coordinated with ODOT to remove a street corner construction project from the department’s to-do list and let the business owner do the work instead.

“How in the world can we ask Oregonians to pay billions more in taxes to finance an agency that teams up with the City of Portland to stick it to small business owners?” said Rep. Boshart Davis. “It’s outrageous. Oregonians shouldn’t believe a thing Democrats have to say about ‘accountability’ when they have them over a barrel, threatening them with new taxes. Accountability needs to come first, not sticking it to Oregon taxpayers to pay for this abuse.”

“Quick message to ODOT after seeing this news report: Knock it off,” said Rep. Christine Drazan (R-Canby). ODOT’s reputation is already tattered. Stop abusing taxpayers already.”
