Duo headlines explains Oregon’s eternal flubbing

Sometimes, the front page of the State’s biggest newspaper reveals how dysfunctional our State has become.

The top headline reads, “Homeless continues to rise, even as services also increase”.   We are talking big increases since big new taxes and big new programs were implemented.   This explains everything we already know — high taxes create poverty, government programs can coddle the homeless and attract new homeless which makes the problem worse.    Below the headline is a picture of a new homeless shelter, The Beaverton Shelter, which is a new fancy-looking artsy homeless shelter with a designer lobby.    Why leave a shelter when it looks like a sleek, trendy hotel lobby?

The second headline announces that Portland has just approved a nearly two-billion-dollar bond.  This Portland bond aims to build new schools that are among the most expensive schools in America.  Easily 40% above other schools.  The price tag is forcing many families to leave the state.   As home taxes soar, it is harder to move out from being homeless.   If only our liberal leaders could see the connection between the two news stories.
