Kotek freezes all state travel … except her $200K Asia trip

Oregon State Governor Tina Kotek just announced a roll-back on all state employee travel in light of the news of a potential $800 million revenue decline in state government funds.

That was last week.  This week she announced a taxpayer funded trip to South Korea and Japan.   The trip will cost just under $200,000.  Her spouse,a  registered lobbyist, will also be in attendance.

Funny, that when Kotek announced the travel freeze she asked employees for their help, “I am asking you to leave no stone unturned to save tax-payer dollars”.  I would like to honor Kotek’s request to leave no stone unturned by turning over her own stone of hypocrisy.

Don’t forget, when Governor Kotek last went on a big trip — a 36 county tour of Oregon — she came back with no ideas, no value, no action items.  Expect the same.

Don’t forget, when Governor Brown and other elected officials went on a $36,000 Europe trip during Covid.  The carbon-heavy trip was on the environment.
