(photo) Cut power line sets car ablaze

KATU-TV reported on a down power line that sent so many sparks around that it caught a car on fire.

Portland Fire and Rescue featured this photo of the damage.

The power line was cut due to falling aging trees in the neighborhood.  Portland has an abundance of aging trees because of their heavy-handed restrictions on cutting down older trees.  This causes problems every winter.  Portland became famous last year for an owner who wished to cut down a dangerous aging tree, was denied a permit, and then had the tree fall on his house soon after.

In this case, the power line cut power to the neighborhood, so the problems of falling trees go far beyond just one property owner’s problem.
