Dems tout $25M tax cut … inside $385M tax hike bill!

You may have seen the headline of the Sunday Oregonian guest editorial “We’re the Democrats advocating to lower your taxes.”

Senate Revenue Chair Senator Anthony Broadman and House Revenue Chair Representative Nancy Nathanson cheer their SB 1507 when they say, “That’s where SB 1507 comes in … a $25 million jobs tax credit to lower taxes on Oregon businesses that create good-paying jobs in Oregon.”

SB 1507-A raises $385 million in new taxes on Oregon businesses by disconnecting from three of the Federal 2025 tax cuts. At the same time they offer businesses in return only $25 million in new business tax credits.  The Democrat headline is grossly misleading as their tax cut is not a cut but a %1,300 tax increase.

The measly tax cut gives businesses a $1,000 per new employee tax credit for new hires.  The average Oregon wage is $66,000.  Do you think businesses are that bad at math to hire a $66,000 employee in order to save $1,000?
