(viral) Family skips costly airport food via pizza delivery

By Taxpayers Association of Oregon Foundation,

Many airports, like Portland International, claim that the prices in the airport are the same as outside the airport.  This is not often the case.  Furthermore, Oregon airports offer no table seating for people who bring their own food.   PDX airport just underwent a billion dollar renovation, funded in part by a tax on our airline tickets, and it still feels lacking.

One Portland family beta the odds and scored 13 million views on their website and drawing national news stories.

When Ali Van De Graaff ordered pizza to go from Domino’s, she really meant to go—with delivery to the outside gate of the Rogue Valley International–Medford Airport in Medford, according to Fox News. The Oregon travel blogger said her family of six planned a trip to Mexico in early February but learned the flight would be delayed, so rather than paying for expensive and limited options at airport concessions, they ordered pizza from Domino’s. While her husband waited with their luggage, she and two of her children met the driver at the gate and passed through airport security again, using TSA precheck and sliding the pizzas onto the conveyor belt. Her Instagram video on Twin Passport Tales received over 13 million videos. While many described the move as ingenious, others called it rude, saying pizza smells would permeate the airplane and crews would need to dispose of large empty pizza boxes.
