City eyes ban on right turns on red

The City of Portland is considering banning drivers from turning right at a red light for over 200 intersections.

The ban is designed to reduce pedestrian accidents.

It just may be that Oregon has a pedestrian-auto-accident problem because Portland has a massive population of homeless and drug-intoxicated addicts walking our streets.  Many Portlanders I know have had accidents involving homeless and intoxicated street walkers.

The ban comes at a time when the City is enacting traffic “calming” policies to slow vehicles down.   Many streets are being repaved for buses and bikes only, which creates more traffic jams.  Many streets are losing lanes to bioswales, which creates more traffic.

During Covid, Portland erected many barriers in the city to slow people down from traveling.

If Portland wishes to reduce more pedestrian accidents, it should stop giving out free drug items to addicts and stop rewarding the homeless with more hand-outs and cash to remain homeless.
