Gov. Brown releases more inmates early

Inmates incarcerated in Oregon state prisons who helped fight wildfires last fall will receive shorter sentences under a proposal offered by Gov. Kate Brown, according to Fox 12. Brown asked the Department of Corrections for a list of adult inmates deployed to fight fires. Those who meet qualifications—participated in fire crews, hold good conduct records, don’t present a safety hazard to the community—may have 12 months of their sentences commuted in gratitude for their work.

This comes at the same time many inmates have had their sentence reduced and released early because they were vulnerable to catching the Covid virus.   T

his also follows politicians law changes which reduced sentences for auto theft, property theft, ID theft and many drug offenses.
