Police “accountability” group eyes slush fund for itself

Police Accountability Commission proposes setting up a slush fund for members

In 2020, Portland voters approved an overhaul of the city’s police oversight. This month, city council will vote on the changes. But rather than working to reduce crime or improve oversight, the commission in charge seems more interested in lining their own pockets.

According to Willamette Week, the 20-member Police Accountability Commission has made some outrageous recommendations:

• The oversight committee should have 33 members—that’s bigger than a Portland Public Schools’ classroom.
• Each of the member should be paid $7,000 a year and receive free mental health care.
• Members should receive free child care, personal security, and therapy.

I guess taxpayers require an accountability commission to provide oversight for the police accountability commission.
