Senate Bill (SB916) seeks to provide all benefits to employees who are striking against a company regarding compensation.   Usually, if you quit your job you cannot collect unemployment benefits.  It appears SB 916 would allow people to leave their job for a strike and still collect a paycheck.   Thus, strikers would be paid to strike.  Since Oregon has witnessed a steady stream of new strikes lately, are soon going to see non-stop striking if workers get paid to not work?

The Senate Bill (SB916) Summary reads, ” Provides that an individual otherwise eligible for unemployment insurance benefits is not disqualified for any week that the individual’s unemployment is due to a labor dispute in active progress at the individual’s place of employment.

The bill is sponsored by State Senator Kathleen Taylor (D), Wlnsvey Campos (D), James I. Manning Jr. (D), Chris Gorsek (D), Kayse Jama (D), Mark Meek (D), Deb Patterson (D), State Representative Dacia Grayber (D), and House Majority Leader Ben Bowman (D).
