Sen. Bonham: More voter registration errors found

Voter system is STILL broken, and new revelations prove it. The DMV just uncovered another 118 people who were wrongfully registered to vote — despite not providing proof of U.S. citizenship. That brings the total to over 1,700.

While the state claims only 30 of these individuals actually voted, that completely misses the point. Our election system must be secure by design, not lucky by outcome. Oregon has allowed non-citizens to obtain driver’s licenses — and then automatically registers them to vote under this failed system.

As you may remember, this isn’t the first time we have had this problem. Last year, the DMV admitted to similar registration errors, which should have been a wake-up call. But here we are again, watching another round of mistakes that compromise trust in our election system.

Election integrity should be a top priority in every state and country. Instead, Oregon has treated it like a paperwork problem. These are not just “data entry errors” — they are major red flags that threaten our democracy. It’s time for leadership that takes our election system seriously — with real safeguards, real transparency, and real accountability.
