5 ways Portland encouraged rioting for years, now can’t stop them.

Portland has just experienced four nights of rioting, violence and mayhem despite desperate measures of emergency curfews and unified calls for peace.  The Justice Center was set afire.

The problem is Portland politicians have coddled rioters for years.

Here are five ways:

#1. When President Trump was elected on election night riots broke out and 120 were cited for violence costing over $1 million in damages. Most of those 120 rioters had their charges dropped on the day before the Presidential inauguration. To many, the timing of the massive release sent a message that it was OK to riot again against a President the Portland politicians hated. The Portland politicians hated the voters choice for President so much that later Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler opined publicly about denying Trump supporters a public permit to host an event in Pioneer Courthouse Square. The pre-inauguration release signal was so strong that police began warning downtown businesses to shut down on inauguration day. Some boarded up their entire store fronts.  Police knew riots were coming and were helpless to stop it.

#2. When an extremist leftist threatened violence against a local neighborhood parade that included a Republican sponsorship, the police refused to provide extra protection and so the parade was cancelled.  The threat stated “You have seen how much power we have downtown and that the police cannot stop us from shutting down roads”.   It was sign that threats of political violence was tolerated in Portland.

#3. Then massive protests erupted in front of the Federal Immigration Office in Portland. The media reported that calls for protection were denied.

“Portland Police Refused to Respond When ICE Agents Called 911 During Protest, Letter Says. In cease and desist letter, federal agents say Portland mayor violated the the U.S. Constitution by barring police from responding to the feds’ calls for help.”

#4. Then journalist, Andy Ngo, was beaten in broad daylight causing brain bleeding. Ngo cites the problem of police allowing an environment of lawlessness which makes it too easy for violent illegal protests to commit crimes.

“How many more people have to be beaten and attacked in the city of Portland before things change? I am by far not the first one. There’s been many other incidents that have happened since 2016 and the policing has remained the same, which is a policy of not engaging with militant protestors.”

#5. In October 2018, Portland made national news for the horrifying example of protesters attacking the car an innocent elderly man who happened to be driving near a local protest. The rioters did $3,000 worth of damages. Antifa later hunted the man down and made death threats against him and his wife. The man said “When the streets are commandeered by a sponsored group of angry, agitated ingrates and criminals, we have no city.”

Liberal Portland politicians need to reign in rioters and unlawful violent protesters at all levels.

The Taxpayer Association of Oregon supports justice for George Floyd but condemns violent protests and lawlessness.
