Oregon break gas record again…nears $5.00

Oregon gas hit an average of $4.85 a gallon, putting Oregon in the top five most expensive places to purchase gas.

Taxpayers need to know that Oregon has high gas prices because our (1) gas tax is one of the nation’s highest and (2) we have a hidden gas tax that forces fuel businesses to pay for higher blend of gasoline (and when they can’t they have to basically pay a fee credit).

These high costs mean people cannot afford to live here, including vulnerable people like families with kids living on a budget.   This is why children are vanishing from Portland (which has its own 10-cent gas tax) as families move out of Portland to seek a place where they can afford.
