Deremer named Hero of Main Street

From the office of U.S. Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer,

Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer (OR-05) has been named a 2024 Hero of Main Street by the National Retail Federation. The recognition is given to lawmakers who work to advance policies that help create a vibrant and healthy retail sector. Retail is the nation’s largest private-sector employer, driving the U.S. economy and creating jobs in communities across the country.

“I’m honored to be recognized as a ‘Hero of Main Street’ by the National Retail Federation,” Chavez-DeRemer said. “Small businesses, including retailers, drive economic growth and success in Oregon by supporting thousands of good-paying jobs. Moving forward, I’ll keep standing up for our main streets by working to improve public safety, expand health care options, and reduce regulations.”

“The retail industry directly impacts every congressional district in the United States, providing goods, services, and American jobs,” NRF Executive Vice President of Government Relations David French said. “NRF is honored to recognize Rep. Chavez-DeRemer as a ‘Hero of Main Street’ for their continued support of the retail industry through legislative action and leadership.”

In Oregon, retail directly supports more than 420,000 jobs and contributes over $27 billion in economic activity. Chavez-DeRemer is a cosponsor of the Combating Organized Retail Crime Act to protect retailers from this criminal activity, which has cost $720,000 for every $1 billion in sales. She also passed the Health DATA Act through the House, which would streamline employers’ ability to compare health plans and provide workers with high-quality, more affordable health benefits.
