Eugene, ORToday, Monique DeSpain, candidate for Oregon’s Fourth Congressional District, received the endorsement of the Citizens for Sensible Forest Management (CSFM), a non-partisan group advocating responsible and sustainable forest management practices that help prevent disastrous fires.

“We are pleased to express our strong endorsement of Monique DeSpain for Congress for Oregon District 4. Monique is the right choice to protect our forests, support rural economies, and advance sensible environmental policies,” said Ralph H. Goldbeck, President & Co-Founder of Citizens for Sensible Forest Management. “We value her clear commitment to safeguarding our forests while supporting the communities that depend on them. We are confident that under her leadership, policies will be enacted that reflect a balanced approach to forest management—one that supports both environmental health and economic prosperity, ensuring that our forests are managed wisely for future generations.”

“I am truly honored to have the endorsement of the Citizens for Sensible Forest Management. I am proud to earn the support of a group like CSFM that truly walks the talk when it comes to identifying real solutions to actively manage our forests and actually prevent wildfires rather than the empty talk of so many such organizations and elected officials,” stated DeSpain. “Preventing the annual severe wildfires is an urgent priority. We can’t just continue to expend massive resources as we witness acre after acre being scorched year after year. Once deployed to Washington, D.C., I will be a representative who will listen and work tirelessly to advance policies and legislation to prevent wildfires in the Fourth District and across our nation.”

In August, Monique DeSpain voiced strong support for the bipartisan H.R.8790 Fix Our Forests Act (FOFA), a transformative piece of legislation designed to produce more resilient, healthy forests, reduce wildfire severity, and promote the prevention of the annual wildfires plaguing Oregon and many other western states with health hazardous persistent smoke. In late September, DeSpain severely criticized her opponent, incumbent Congresswoman Val Hoyle, for voting against this bill, the only forest management legislation to advance out of committee during the current Congress, which passed the House with a strong bipartisan majority 268-151 with the support of 55 Democrats, including former Democrat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, but not Representative Val Hoyle.

“Our district is 85% forestland, half of which, 2.3 million acres, is federally managed and where the majority of these fires burn out of control every year. The voters of the Fourth District have had enough of our federal representative, incumbent career politician Val Hoyle, consistently failing to stand up for our priorities and lead with solutions. CSFM’s endorsement is recognition that I am determined to deliver laws and funding that lead to healthier, more fire-resilient forests that can support our communities and environment instead of the current situation where we breathe third-world levels of smoke every year,” added DeSpain.

Citizens for Sensible Forest Management (CSFM) is a non-partisan group working to build a large base of individuals, regardless of political party affiliation, to draw the attention of government leaders to the overwhelming desire for pragmatic forest management and encourage common ground to help prevent disastrous fires in the future and through rational management of the forests using all means available. Group endorses both Democrats and Republicans who support their mission.
