House Republican Caucus Statement on Committee Hearing for Wildfire Special Session
By Oregon House Republican Caucus Press Release,

SALEM, Ore. – The day before the upcoming special session on the Oregon Department of Forestry’s insolvency crisis, legislators will hold a public hearing to give Oregonians the opportunity to speak directly about the urgent need to pay our firefighters while demanding an end to the cycle of agency mismanagement.

“Oregonians understand we have a moral obligation to pay the brave men and women who risk their lives protecting our communities from wildfires. What they don’t support is repeatedly bailing out broken agencies without fundamental reform,” said Leader Christine Drazan (R-Canby).

“It’s time to address the persistent delays in federal reimbursements that are straining our state’s firefighting capabilities. Inaction is no longer an option – we need to work together to fix this broken payment system,” said Rep. Bobby Levy (R-Echo).

House Republicans look forward to collaborating with our federal partners to expedite delayed payments that have left Oregonians without pay. The incoming Trump administration’s priority on government efficiency aligns with our commitment to ensuring Oregonians receive timely compensation for their critical services, and we will work to find a solution to end this problem for good.

The public hearing will be held Wednesday, Dec 11 at 11:30 A.M. in Committee Room C. You can register to testify here or access information about streaming the committee.
