This has been a wild week for Oregon on the immigration topic:

#1. Liberal Democrat war of words amongst each other:  Progressive Portland City Councilor Angelita Morillo severely blasted Oregon Democrat Congresswoman Janelle Bynum for daring to vote for the Laken Riley Act.

“we are all on the same side, fighting the same fight against fascism…I am not here to play polite anymore. If you want people to be on the same team, then act like we’re on a f——g team. Act like we’re on a team. Because if you don’t, then I don’t owe you any kindness or niceness in these public political spaces. Okay?” and also ““Anyone who is not holding the line for undocumented communities is a traitor to democratic values as far as I’m concerned”

The Laken Riley Act simply requires Homeland Security to detain illegal immigrants if they are charged with certain crimes like assaulting a police officer, theft or crimes resulting in death or bodily injury.

#2. Kotek’s controversial email:  The Oregon Administrative Services Department issued an email to 11,000 state employees, asking them to undergo “Oregon Sanctuary Promise” training, which instructs government employees how to look for problems with Federal Immigration enforcement and for ways not to assist with enforcement help.

#3. Oregon State Representative Dwayne Yunker blasts Kotek’s illegal email:  This brought condemnation and possible exposure of illegal activity by Oregon State Representative Dwayne Yunker. His press release stated,

“Representative Dwayne Yunker (R-Grants Pass) called on the Oregon Department of Administrative Services (DAS) to immediately suspend its newly mandated Sanctuary State training for state employees, citing its direct violation of President Trump’s Executive Order 14159 and the recently signed Laken Riley Act. “The State of Oregon is actively instructing state employees to defy federal law and obstruct immigration enforcement. This is not only reckless—it is illegal,” said Rep. Yunker. “I have sent a letter to DAS demanding that they immediately halt this training and work with the Department of Homeland Security to ensure Oregon is fully cooperating with federal immigration authorities. Oregon must put the safety of its residents first.” (read more here)

#5. Kotek pledges to sue Trump.  Oregon Governor Tina Kotek broadcasted a public video pledging to sue the Trump administration over birthright citizenship.

#6. Portland Police Chief and Mayor Jump in:  The uproar over immigration enforcement caused the Portland Police Bureau Chief Bob Day and Portland Mayor to issue a statement pledging to not work with the President and Federal Border officials.  The Police Chief said he had no legal authority to assist.

#7. Catholic Bishop issues letter:  The Portland Archbishop, Alexander K. Sample, issued this rare open letter on the immigration enforcement issue: “It is important to note that we do not yet fully understand all the repercussions of the executive orders. The leadership of the USCCB continues to study this question and advocate on behalf of the most vulnerable.”

In light of these events the Taxpayers Association of Oregon broadcasted these graphics:
