Washington County Clean Water Services CEO, Diane Taniguchi-Dennis, has been attending conferences in Hawaii, staying at five-star hotels and enjoying expensive meals funded by ratepayers.

The Oregonian investigated Clean Water Service’s annual trips to Hawaii for a conference. They found that the agency trips “ cost a whopping $91,000 and, in some instances, government officials received first-class airfare, premium hotel rooms or fine dining.” The Oregonians, in addition, found that the cost of meals during the conference became quite an expense for the rate payers  “The agency’s tab for meals bought locally and during work travel reached more than $440,000 during the five years reviewed by the newsroom, records obtained through public records requests show. In comparison, Portland’s Bureau of Environmental Services and Clackamas Water Environment Services spent only about $110,000 combined on food during that span, according to agency records.”

This concern about the water service expense raises questions: if they are funding trips to Hawaii, what else are they funding?
