Kotek’s wife registers as a lobbyist (uh-oh)

The last time Oregon Governor Tina Kotek’s wife got into politics it cost taxpayers $200,000.

We are talking about the  special $200,000 taxpayer paid conference put on by Governor Kotek for which only 28 guests attended. It was a conference to highlight Aimee Kotek Wilson and her health care issues.

Also, at the same time Kotek’s wife was part of an ethics investigation over her lobbying and using government resources.

Having a Governor’s spouse become a lobbyist has the effect of losing the ambassadorship nature/opportunity of a spouse.    As a lobbyist everything becomes all politics all the time.

Other Governors may engage in this.  When it does, everything becomes more complicated and sensitive when the Governor’s spouse begins to lobby you.

Remember, there are already nearly 200 registered government lobbyists in Oregon.  Each agency of State Government has an official representative and there job is to testify in the Capitol — always asking for more money and more power.

Consider, how Governor Kotek sponsored a bill to allow her health agency to raises taxes and ban products — WITHOUT LEGISLATIVE APPROVAL OR A VOTE.

Governor Kotek also is working on a 1,200 state government hiring spree — at a time when private jobs are losing 5,000.   You can’t tax the unemployed to pay for new jobs.

Sadly, Kotek’s wife becoming a lobbyist is just another expansion of government power and influence.
