Majority of Voters Oppose $15 Billion Tax Hike in HB 2025, Poll Shows

By Oregon Senate Republican Office,

SALEM, Ore. – With just days left in the legislative session, new polling shows that Oregon voters overwhelmingly reject House Bill 2025.

Only 3% of voters say roads are a top concern, and most oppose raising the gas tax. Yet Democrats continue pushing HB 2025, a transportation package with more than 35 new or increased taxes and fees, totaling $15 billion over 10 years.

Senate Republican Leader Daniel Bonham (R-The Dalles) issued the following statement:

“Oregonians aren’t opposed to paying for essential services. They just want to see results when they do. Every session, state government asks for more money to solve crises like homelessness and education, and every year, those problems stay the same or get worse. It’s no wonder people have lost trust that their tax dollars will be spent wisely.

HB 2025 is more of the same—a massive tax increase that won’t fix what’s broken. Lawmakers pushing this bill in the face of overwhelming public opposition should think twice and work with us to deliver real, accountable solutions that fix our roads and rebuild trust.”
