Lars Larson: Double standard for a top educator

Double standards in law enforcement apparently extend to the woman accused of covering up sexual crimes by high school students.

Bodycam footage shows police taking Longview Schools Superintendent Karen Cloninger into custody. She is charged with obstructing law enforcement, witness tampering, and failure to report sexual crimes against children in the schools she oversees.

Agencies released the video Friday.

Arresting officers showed incredible deference to this woman who’s charged with putting children in jeopardy.

Cloninger actually had the chutzpah to ask if she could walk out to a waiting police car without wearing handcuffs.

Apparently, she’s never watched COPS or any other reality law-enforcement show.

Then she asked officers if they could take her out the back door so that school employees would not see her in cuffs and in custody, even though news of her arrest quickly went public.

Officers then ordered that the car picking her up be moved to the back door of the accused criminal’s office.

You wonder how many garden-variety criminals accused of serious crimes involving kids would get such deference from cops?

And what message does that tell the community?

That’s the Rose City Rap. Join me at noon on KXL for 4 hours of honestly provocative talk. I’m Lars Larson
