Ballot measure: Lawmaker walk-out protest ban submits signatures

The government employee union backed ballot measure to make it harder for lawmakers to walk-out in protest during a Legislative Session has submitted 183,942 signatures to the Oregon secretary of state.  This is far above the 149,000+ needed to qualify.  The measure would give the Senate President and House Speaker more power to determine whether a lawmaker is excused from business (over a protest) and therefore block them from re-election if it occurs 10 or more times.

If the signatures submitted qualify, the measure will be on the November Ballot.

Legislative walk-out protests have been used by Kate Brown many years ago over redistricting and more recently by the Republican lawmakers to stop the Carbon Tax (72-cent gas tax increase).
