There are so many drug users using many of the various Multnomah County library bathrooms, that staff are reporting symptoms of second hand drug use.

KGW-TV reports, “CDC’s National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health looked at three county libraries: the Hollywood, Belmont and Central branches. They spoke with 95 employees for the study.Just over a third of those workers reported being exposed to drugs, primarily fentanyl. Some said they were exposed to drug use daily, and 19 reported experiencing symptoms from the exposure.”They were having headaches; they were lightheaded,” said Manuel Arellano, a library assistant”

The report also said the drug users were violent with staff, “Most of the surveyed workers reported believing they were likely to experience workplace violence related to that drug use in the library.”

We previously reported on the problem of second-hand crack smoke from people walking to work and also from people using the bus after a study showed that meth/crack were found on 100% of the Portland buses tested.

We also reported on the fact that outside the Multnomah Library the anti-crime tree lighting installed by the City failed to thwart drug dealers.
