We agree with The Oregonian on ICE access debate

We have posted dozens of articles exposing the truth about what Portland rioters are doing at the ICE building and we have also been critical of recent media coverage.  But last week’s front page Oregonian article on ICE media relations is correct.   The Oregonian was critical of ICE providing access to DHS Secretary Christy Noem only to certain media outlets, namely independent journalists, and not a cross section of reporters.  The same with requests for inside the building.

If it was not for independent journalists like Katie Daviscourt and HunnyBadgerMom, the Public’s understanding of the riots would be woefully incomplete.  In fact, if it wasn’t for reporters like them we wouldn’t have the captured video of key moments and details.  So, ICE is correct to give access to them.  Yet, if the DHS Secretary comes into town, she should talk to reporters.  The President has recruited top talent for his cabinet positions who are all excellent speakers.  The President’s cabinet can handle the press in tough situations.

This is an important principle that stands no matter who is President.

We would cry foul if President Biden blocked media access.

So we encourage our Federal agencies to always have a mixed media presence for full, fair access coverage.
