How politicians lavish themselves with our tax $$ (Kotek, Brown, more)

Governors lavish themselves with tax cash for their own personal benefit.

• Then-Governor Kate Brown used $100,000 of tax dollars to pay for a private political consultant.  Bad purchase, because then-Governor Brown during her term was rated the least popular Governor in America.

• Governor Tina Kotek came under fire this year for spending $200,000 in tax dollars for a conference event for her wife.  Only around 30 people actually attended.

• Oregon Congressman Earl Blumenauer directed $18 million of mostly tax dollars to build a bike-only bridge in his name.   Once Blumenauer announced retirement this year, Portland State University decided to hire him at $100,000 — despite laying off over 80 staff members due to budget cuts.

•  Portland City Commissioner Carmen Rubio hid the news of a $540 million surplus in her bureau budget.   Rubio hid the news and delayed announcement in order for Rubio to have enough time to come up with a detailed plan on how to spend it before anyone else.
