Last Fall Governor Kotek launched her re-election campaign by pledging to help businesses and even created a Prosperity Office.

Then in December at the Business Leadership Summit the Oregon Senate President and House Speaker also pledged to rescue local businesses.

Four weeks later, they are all over-seeing these terrible business bashing bills.

• Kicker theft bill #1.  HB 4125 changes the formula on how Kicker Income Tax Refund is calculated.

• Kicker theft bill #2:  SJR 201 is the SECOND Kicker theft bill introduced in the Legislature and is having its first hearing today.  People can submit online testimony today and tomorrow (Thursday). SJR 201 is a Constitutional Amendment to be referred to voters for approval that would divert HALF of your Kicker tax refund to education, community colleges and forestry.

$400M backdoor tax on businesses.  SB 1507 helps disconnect Oregon from two of Trump’s 2025 tax cuts.

Makes it easier to sue businesses into oblivion.  HB 4098 expands the Unlawful Trade Practices Act which means more people can sue more businesses.

83% hotel tax hike to fund wildlife.  HB 4134 raises the hotel lodging tax by 83% to fund wildlife programs.

• Google tax.  SB 1580 forces social media companies like Google and Facebook to enter into forced agreements or pay a heavy fine if they don’t.

• Superfund (fee) climate bill: Senate Bill 1541 is a bill that empowers state agencies to come up with a master invoice of what they think of any negative impact done by energy companies over the last 30 years. This will then set the stage for fining these energy companies possible by the billions.  Read more here (Senator Brock Smith) and here (Taxpayers Association)
